The Obama administration on June 4 announced several executive actions and legislative recommendations aimed at reducing "frivolous" patent litigation and improving the quality of patents granted, including the launch of a rulemaking proceeding at the Patent and Trademark Office to require more transparency on the "real party-in-interest." The rulemaking proposal would require "patent applicants and owners to regularly update ownership information when they are involved in proceedings before the PTO, specifically designating the 'ultimate parent entity' in control of the patent or application," the White House said.
