SoftBank Corp. and Sprint Nextel Corp. announced have agreed to several national security conditions to gain clearance from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) for SoftBank's $20.1 billion acquisition of 70％ of the nation's third-largest wireless carrier, including the appointment of an independent security director to the board of directors and sign-off of certain equipment vendors. Approval of the conditions by CFIUS, which reviews transactions that involve foreign companies and U.S. assets to see whether they have a national security impact on the U.S., clears the way for the FCC to move ahead and finalize its review of the transaction.
