AT&T Offers Net Neutrality Commitments In Bid for Approval of Directv Transaction

As an added inducement to regulatory approval beyond the "clearly and strongly positive" consumer effects of its proposed acquisition of Directv, AT&T, Inc., has committed in an FCC filing to adhere to all of the FCC's 2010 open Internet rules until three years after the transaction closes, in spite of the overturning of two of those rules by an appeals court earlier this year. In addition, AT&T said that for three years after the transaction closes it would "continue to offer standalone retail broadband Internet access service at reasonable market-based prices, including a service of at least 6 [megabits per second] down (where feasible) at guaranteed prices, in areas where AT&T offers wireline broadband service today."
