Markey Queries Airlines, Manufacturers on Cybersecurity

Sen. Edward Markey (D., Mass.) said Dec. 2 that he sent letters to 12 airlines and airplane makers Boeing Co. and Airbus asking for details about "cybersecurity protections on their aircrafts and computer systems." The senator asked for responses by Jan. 11, 2016. In the letter to Boeing and Airbus, Sen. Markey asked for information "regarding your company's protections and protocols against the threat of cyber-attacks in relation to the integration of new technologies onboard the aircraft" designed and made by those firms. He noted an April 2015 Government Accountability Officer report that he said raised concerns "about possible unauthorized access to aircraft avionics systems."
