Military Officials Emphasize Spectrum Consortium Benefits

Defense Department and National Telecommunications and Information Administration officials recently stressed the importance of a new National Spectrum Consortium being organized by DoD, saying that it will facilitate collaboration among the military, industry, and academia in finding ways to deploy spectrum technologies, including those that can better enable sharing between military systems and wireless carriers. Speaker after speaker during a Dec. 5 industry day organized by DoD said that the military and industry both have seen growing demand for spectrum-dependent systems, and that the two sides can help each other through collaboration. DoD can gain access to the latest technologies in a more rapid fashion while companies - including nontraditional entities - can get more streamlined access to military customers, they said.
