Tech-Neutral Approach Urged For Cable Copyright License

Congressional intent and judicial precedent support a technologically neutral interpretation of the Copyright Act's statutory license for cable systems, Public Knowledge and the Electronic Frontier Foundation told the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in an amici curiae brief filed July 25 in online multichannel video services provider FilmOn X LLC's appeal of a summary judgment against it by a federal district court in a copyright dispute with Fox Television Stations, Inc., and other content owners.
