Markey Offers Bill to Promote Global Internet Access

Sen. Edward J. Markey (D., Mass.) has introduced a bill directing the State Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation to promote Internet access and digital literacy in developing countries. The Driving Innovation and Growth in Internet Technology and Launching Universal Access to the Global Economy (DIGITAL AGE) Act (S 3206) would establish a position of special representative for the Global Connect Initiative within the State Department, to be appointed by the president, subject to Senate confirmation.
