Belgacom to focus on broadband at home after IPO

Belgian incumbent Belgacom is to invest around EUD300 million over the next three years building out fibre-to-the-curb (FTTC) technology and upgrading to VDSL, according to strategic plans outlined in the prospectus for its forthcoming IPO. Belgacom will deploy FTTC and VDSL in major cities and is targeting 46 per cent population coverage by the end of 2006. Belgacom (see fig.) expects capital expenditure to be EUD615 million in 2004, around EUD400 million of which will be invested in fixed-line services such as fibre-optic cables, transmission and IT equipment, EUD200 million in its mobile subsidiary Belgacom and EUD15 million in its international carrier service.
