TDC adopts Microsoft TV as Telecom Italia opts out

Microsoft's ambitions in the IPTV-system market will receive a boost this month when Danish incumbent TDC is expected to announce plans to roll out the software giant's IPTV Edition platform across Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland later this year. However, this major win conies not long after the Italian incumbent and key Microsoft IPTV customer Telecom Italia launched its first commercial TV-over-broadband service, which uses technology from other vendors. The two events highlight an ambiguity: while Microsoft has signed up more of the world's largest operators than any of its rivals, not one of these contracts has resulted in a full commercial service so far.
