UK cable operator Virgin Media has launched a 16Mbps broadband service for ADSL customers, doubling its previous maximum speed. The higher speeds will be available only where exchanges have been upgraded. Customers will have to pay an extra £5 (US$7.50) on top of their existing package for the new service. UK pay-TV giant Sky is set to freeze broadband prices for customers subscribing to Sky Broadband Max, Sky+HD or Sky Multiroom until January 2010. The News Corp.-owned company recently confirmed plans to raise Sky Broadband prices from next March, except for SkyTalk customers.
