The BBC wants to make its online TV-catch-up service available to a global audience and on as many digital platforms as possible, Erik Huggers, the UK broadcaster's director of future media and technology, said at a conference earlier this month. He said the online iPlay-er service had served 248 million items since its official launch on Christmas day, while the Virgin cable TV version had served 49 million videos since June.
