Bt No Longer Passive About Next-generation Access

BT has spoken out strongly against next-generation wholesale products that would help rivals build their own fiber-to-the-x networks. The move lends credence to the theory that the UK incumbent is hoping the move to next-generation access will help re-establish its dominance of the last mile, which has been eroded in the past few years by local-loop un-bundlers. BT had said it was keeping an open mind about so-called "passive" products, such as duct access and sub-loop unbundling. But this month, two senior BT executives said the company believed that such products would "not stimulate investment in next-generation access in the UK."
