Openreach model to cause fresh problems for rural broadband

The separation of BT's access network from its retail operations has raised new barriers to the provision of next-generation broadband access (NGA) to less densely populated areas, say industry figures. The barriers relate to matching demand with supply. Many rural fibre-to-the-x (FTTx) schemes will be driven by regional development agencies (RDAs) and community groups, but Openreach is legally allowed to work only with "communications providers" (CPs).
