Netia makes headway as mobile operators wait in the wings

Poland's Netia faces a major challenge in the likely entrance of the country's mobile operators into the fixed-line broadband market.rnNetia, established in 1999, is the largest alternative telecoms operator in Poland in broadband-subscription terms. It has its own fibre backbone and DSL, cable, WiMAX and Ethernet LAN networks over which it offers telephony and Internet access. Netia is owned by Nova-tor Telecom Poland (29.3%), Third Avenue Management (20.5%), SISU Capital (10%) and Banca Akros (6%). The remainder is publicly traded.rnNetia's copper infrastructure covers Poland's major cities and reaches about 50% of the population. The operator launched a bitstream-based DSL service in January 2007. This has enabled Netia to offer broadband nationwide since September 2007.
