Ken Krupp slashed 40 percent off Panasonic Avionics' European cell phone bill by consolidating 150 phones on T-Mobile - even though the end users were scattered in locales as diverse as Amsterdam, Hamburg, Helsinki, London, Madrid, Milan and Zurich. Krupp, then the global telecom manager at the Bothell, Wash.-based enterprise, began his quest for a single pan-European wireless deal in search of lower costs and a more responsive account rep. Procuring mobile services for Europe-based end users as a single project - instead of negotiating a separate deal in each country - doesn't guarantee that you'll score lower rates or have the luxury of working with only one carrier. But it will simplify your shopping and reduce your procurement costs, say Ben Fox, London-based managing director of TechCaliber Consulting, and Joe Schmidt, Singapore-based TC2 senior consultant, who combined have negotiated 10 such deals.
