Constructing a new generation of metropolitan optical networks

The development of voice switching services has been slowing down since 2000, despite the stable and considerable profits it has continuously generated for carriers. To satisfy the growing demand for large bandwidth data services from enterprise customers and individual users, carriers have been constructing broadband access networks and Ethernet private line networks. This brings various changes to the construction of metropolitan optical networks, and new requirements are emerging at different layers as a result.
