KERRY REINTRODUCES WHITE SPACES BILL

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) introduced the 搘hite spaces?bill he promoted in the last Congress that would allow broadband communications to occupy unused frequencies in the TV broadcast spectrum. Kerry said the bill could help bring broadband services to large and small communities and serve businesses and online learning centers. Kerry criticized the FCC as dragging its feet on broadband deployment, and said he plans to build bipartisan support for the bill and hopes for immediate passage. The bill requires the FCC to allow unlicensed use of the unassigned broadcast spectrum between 54 MHz and 698 MHz within 180 days of enactment.
