Cable operators' plans for wireless broadband may change down the road, depending on how consumers respond to service offerings, executives said at the NCTA show. Some operators have invested in Clearwire. Cox is building its own network. Others aren't convinced that they need wireless offerings. "This space can change quickly," said Comcast CEO Brian Roberts. "Right now we're focused on trying to make Clearwire successful ... Having a bunch of us try different things is terrific and we can adjust as we go." Cox CEO Patrick Esser said that at first his company's service "may feel like what you could possibly buy from a Verizon or an AT&T," Esser said. But he said that further out he envisions applications that integrate Cox's offerings, much the way Clearwire's investors have discussed.
