A Senate bill to ban the possession and use of wireless devices in federal prisons 搘ould have no significant cost to thenfederal government,?the Congressional Budget Office said. The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the bill by voicenvote in late January. Enacting the measure could affect direct spending and revenue, so pay-as-you-go procedures wouldnapply, CBO said. 揌owever, CBO estimates that the net effects would be insignificant for each year.?The bill would applynto relatively few offenders, so law enforcement, court and prison costs wouldn 抰 increase much, the Office said. And thengovernment would stand to collect criminal fines from those prosecuted and convicted, it said.
