India added a staggering 6.6 million mobile subscribers in the month of October 2007 alone. At the end of October 2007 the total number of mobile phones in India had reached 136 million units. With a steady increase in mobile phones, the demand for smartphones has also seen a major boost. Smartphones provide users with advanced features such as Internet access, multimedia playback, document editing, email capabilities as well as availability of third-party applications for enhanced functions beside the usual calling capabilities. To be able to provide such advanced features, a smartphone generally has a mobile operating system installed such as Symbian, Linux, Palm or Windows Mobile.
