In decades of working with tech, I remember December 1982 vividly. It was the month I bought my first computer, after saving for a year-a Sinclair ZX81 packed with one whole kilobyte of RAM. I was the first off the mark at school (St Xavier's, Delhi), though a classmate got an Apple II weeks earlier. It was also the month I saw, but did not touch, my first IBM PC, and the iconic Commodore 64. It was also the year when the Time Man of the Year, "the greatest influencer of the year, for good or evil..." was the computer-for the first time ever, not a man or woman, but a machine.
