Thousands of fatigue cracks have been detected at the lower end of welded joints between bulb ribs and cross ribs in orthotropic steel decks, where the radius of slits is smaller than 35 mm. The purpose of this study is to verify the possibility of fatigue cracking at welded joints along the slit with a radius of 40 mm. The specimen was quarried out from a replaced expressway bridge. As a result, No fatigue cracks were detected at the lower end of the welded joint but they were detected at the upper part of slits Nos. 7 and 8 in the tensile stress area.
