Absorbent wound dressings made from customized bacterial alginate

摘要

Customized alginate derived from cultivated bacteria has been used to create fibre-based materials in a project funded by the German Government. Supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the recently concluded AlBioTex project has succeeded in its aim to discover a sustainable biotechnology that can be used to create wound dressings without the need to resort to the time-consuming conventional method of deriving the biopolymerfrom brown algae, according to the four German partners involved.
