An antimicrobial nonwoven that can be incorporated into particulate filters has been developed by US companies PureAir Filtration of Norcross, Georgia, and Noble Biomaterials of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Called FiberShield, the fabric is made from polyamide (PA) nanofibres impregnated with Noble Biomaterials' antimicrobial silver technology (lonic+) and can be incorporated into any particulate filter-giving filter manufacturers the flexibility to add antimicrobial functionality to their existing products. The partners say that, in independent testing, FiberShield has been proven to inactivate over 99% of certain pathogens.
