Innovative Fuel Tank Developed Using Twin Sheet Blow Molding System

plastic fuel tank. Inergy Automotive Systems, a 50/50 joint venture between Plastic Omnium, Levallois, France and Solvay SA, Belgium and a leading supplier of complete plastic fuel systems and fluid storage technologies, was able to successfully integrate this new technology into components of a fuel tank during blow molding and was able to reduce the costs and emissions at the same time.In this new process, the sheets were extruded between a central core and a mold and the core actions were attached the components during the initial stages of sheet forming. The empty core was found to withdraw and the mold was closed to join the formed sheets in a second blowing step. Other components such as baffles, gauges, valves, jet pumps, lines, fuel modules, and canisters could also be attached to the core. TSBM was found so effective technology and has already started to be incorporated in the new BMW AG series.
