Rhetoric of a Global Epidemic: Transcultural Communication about SARS

Since the 1990s, technical writing has oriented itself in various ways toward globalization studies and transcultural rhetorics. A growing body of technical writing scholarship has engaged with these fields, though not often with rigor; so Huiling Ding's book, Rhetoric of a Global Epidemic: Transcultural Communication about SARS, provides distinct contributions. According to the introduction, the book has two contributive ends: first, to initiate an international rhetoric of epidemics, broadening the theoretical and terminological purview of risk communication; and second, to supply more complex heuristics for risk assessment and management, tooled toward research, negotiation, and intervention in global events.
