Christopher Browning, reader in international security at the University of Warwick, has produced a useful summary of a topic that demands public knowledge if democratic societies are to remain attentive to current and emerging threats to their security. The book is accessible and well suited to courses in security studies; it would also serve as a useful introduction for citizens who would like to know more about the risks they face and the ways in which their governments might respond to those risks.
