One goal -many approaches in CI(G)S

In 2009, the share of CIS/CIGS technology on the world photovoltaics market was a modest 200 MW, merely 3% of the entire market. But the technology, with CdTe modules, has a good shot at capturing the market for thin film modules.rnThis spring, CI(G)S solar cells (hereafter just referred to as CIS) proved the extent of their potential on two occasions. In February, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) of the US Department of Energy announced a new world record for a CIGS thin film module. The Americans were able to establish an aperture surface efficiency level of 13.2 % for a solar generator on a flexible support material.
