1 GW offshore achieved

The British are the offshore wind energy world champions. With the parks Gunfleet Sands and Robin Rigg going into operation there are now turbines with a total capacity of 1 GW in British waters. Since the middle of April there have been twelve offshore wind farms in the UK with a total of 366 turbines producing power for around 700,000 households, says the association RenewableUK (previously BWEA). Britain thus has exactly 1,041 MW of offshore wind energy capacity.rnMaria McCaffery, Chief Executive of the association, is pleased that the British offshore wind industry has matured.
