450 GW of offshore wind achievable in Europe by 2050 with grid, planning boosts

If Europe is to boost its offshore wind capacity to ambitious levels laidout by the European Commission, significant investments will need tobe made in grid infrastructure, and maritime planning regulation needsto be softened. That is the conclusion of industry group WindEurope inan outlook report released November 26.In the EU's efforts to become carbon-neutral, the commission hadsaid that between 230 GW and 450 GW of offshore wind capacitywould be required by 2050. The WindEurope report said it is feasible toreach the upper end of that range, and focused on Northern Europeanwaters which would host the majority of new turbines.
