What is the potential of large freestanding photovoltaic plants in Europe now that announcements to cut back national support programmes and reduce the feed-in tariff for large-scale systems are increasingly being made? The "PV Power Plants 2010 - EU" tried to provide answers to this question.rnProject developers for large freestanding photovoltaic plants in Europe aren't having an easy time at the moment. After the capping of the Spanish PV market in 2008, the German government is now threatening to cut the current feed-in tariff of 28.75 €-ct/kWh for freestanding systems by 25 % in mid-2010. This would also have repercussions internationally; last year six out of the ten largest freestanding photovoltaic plants were built in Germany. Additionally, according to an estimate presented at the PV Power Plants Conference 2010 in Prague in January by Denis Lenardic, operator of the Internet portal pvresources.com, over half of all large-scale PV power plants of over 200 kW which joined the grid in Germany in 2009 actually had an installed capacity of over 20 MW. The planned cut would, for the second time in a row, be removing the basic foundations for freestanding systems in the then-leading market.
