Jatropha

The climate for growing jatropha is good in virtually all of Africa. All in all, an area of 1,080 million ha - more than half of the continent - is perfect for cultivating energy crops. With average temperatures near 30 °C, the humid tropical climate is also excellent for growing jatropha in Togo. After one to two years, jatropha plants start bearing their first fruit. Average crop height is between 3 and 5 m. In tropical countries, the plant develops blossoms and fruit all year round, making harvesting possible several times a year.
