Green Electricity Act doubles support volume

On 8th February the EU Commission approved the new Austrian Green Electricity Act. The foundation has thus been laid for the further expansion of renewable energies in Austria. Not only Austria's tourism benefits from the Alpine location, but also especially the energy economy. Over half of Austria's inland electricity demand of 73.4 TWh was met in 2010 using hydropower (37 TWh). The remaining renewable energies covered a further 10 %. Of this, over half (55 %) was met by solid biomass and biogas. This was followed by wind power (42.5 %), with solar electricity generation way behind (0.5 %).
