Integral Wing Panel for Airplanes Produced by Friction Stir Welded Extrusion Shapes

摘要

Friction stir welding is suited for joining process of high strength aluminum alloys which are difficult to weld by conventional fusion welding. We investigated friction stir welded joints of aluminum alloys 2024, 7475 and 7050 for airplane structures. A joint of alloy 7050 produced by the following process, solution heat treatment, aging and friction stir welding (SHT - aging - FSW) had high joint efficiency of more than 80%, however it had low resistance to stress corrosion. While a joint by SHT - FSW - aging process had high resistance to stress corrosion as well as base metal. We evaluated friction stir welded large panels from alloy 7050 extruded shapes as integral wing panels for airplanes.
