Repair work is generally necessary to ensure durability of cracked structural concrete. This is especially the case for car parks with corrosion due to the ingress of chlorides. This article presents the current status of recommendations for the maintenance, inspection and testing of concrete structures and provides a basis for the design of maintenance measures and concrete repair. Non-destructive testing in civil engineering (NDT) as well as destructive testing support the design of structural repair or are used to verify the quality of structural components. Several analysis techniques offer options to analyse the material properties and corrosion state of existing structures. Owners, designers and contractors need information on how these methods are properly applied. This report provides an overview of testing methods as applied to car parks. A more detailed description, real world applications and limitations of these testing methods for assessing car park structures are addressed in the new DBV-Heft 39.
