Our 2010 Structural Engineer of the Year is Chris D. Poland [1]. I have personally observed Chris's entire career as he helped us all grow professionally with his professional society contributions, as well as his leadership of one of the great structural engineering firms in the world. I have asked Chris to share with us, as we have done with previous winners, special projects and people in his career. I also have asked him to share with us lessons learned so that all who read his biography paper in this issue will be better structural engineers.
