TU Berlin: new building with GFRP reinforcement for electron microscopy

From the engineering viewpoint, this building was not unusual in terms of design and construction procedures. However, the special requirements regarding protection against vibration and the electromagnetic sensitivity of the work within the building were the challenges. The constructional input and the cost of materials were higher, likewise the standard of workmanship required from the contractor. Planning permission was granted in March 2009 and all the ancillary buildings, the foundations and the ground improvements had been completed by late November 2009.
