Asia's Regional Architecture: Alliances and Institutions in the Pacific Century

The US and China have been on collision course in the Indo-Pacific propelled by their ambitions to outcompete each other's influence in the Asian regional order. Their power rivalry and frequent rows have hampered multilateral cooperation and exposed the limitations of the global governance system. This can be clearly witnessed from the inability to make a joint global effort towards fighting the COVID-19. The confrontation has paralysed international multilateral organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the G-7, making it impossible to draft a comprehensive global strategy.
