FCC Seeks Broad Comment on National Broadband Plan

The FCC started April 8 a proceeding to devise a national broadband plan. Commissioners unanimously approved a notice of inquiry asking how to spur broadband deployment and adoption. Congress has given the FCC until February 2010 to deliver the plan.rnThe FCC asked about supply and demand matters outlined in the Recovery Act. The commission sought comment on how to judge progress of broadband deployment and grants' usefulness, how best to use current information, and what other metrics to weigh. On demand, the FCC asks about affordability, digital literacy, civic participation, community development, cybersecurity and how to spur adoption among low-income Americans, the disabled, minorities and older people.
