Verizon and others have until Monday to comment on a Public Service Commission staff request to put off imposing revised guidelines on carrier-to-carrier interactions until Verizon provides more information. In a Nov. 17 order, the commission invited comments on the proposed guidelines, intended to bring Maryland's rules into line with New York's. The guidelines were to have been treated as approved by Dec. 28 unless someone objected or the commission took further action. The staff said Dec. 23 that it had asked Verizon for more data and asked that the guidelines not take effect until the carrier and officials work out disagreements. "The Commission is unwilling at the eleventh hour to grant in toto the relief Staff requests, not least because Verizon has had no opportunity to respond," the commission said Monday. "But the Commission will toll the effective date of the Carrier to Carrier Guidelines," it said, expressing no further opinion on the staff request.
