All Networks Face Capacity Constraints, Verizon Says in Defending Voice Link

Wireline networks can get congested too. That’s one Verizon response to an FCC request seekingninformation on the suitability of its fixed wireless product, Voice Link, as a substitute for wireline. ThenFCC is considering Verizon’s Section 214 Communications Act application to discontinue copper wirelinenservices on the New Jersey Barrier Islands. Verizon amended that filing in September to reflect itsnrecent announcement that it would install fiber on Fire Island in New York (STRR Sept 13 p1). Verizonnintends to complete its fiber deployment by summer, it said in a late September FCC filing. Experts wenspoke with said wireless-only service may raise reliability concerns.
