IAEA issues Final Report on Decommissiong the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

On January 31, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) published its final report written by a 13-member ex-pert team that reviewed Japan’s efforts to plan and imple-ment the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS). The report, titled IAEA International Peer Review Mission on Mid- and Long-Term Roadmap To-wards the Decommissioning of TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, is based on findings made during a November 2018 visit to Tokyo and the Fukushima Daiichi NPS. The report was delivered to Japanese authorities on January 30. The Roadmap, which includes a description of the main steps and activities that need to be implemented to decom-mission the Tokyo Electric Power Company’s (TEPCO’s) Fukushima Daiichi NPS, was adopted by the Japanese gov-ernment in December 2011. It was revised in July 2012, June 2013, June 2015, and September 2017.
