We appreciate the interest and comments by Mr. Dietrich in his discussion of "An Approach to Simulating the Effects of Water- Induced Compaction in a North Sea Reservoir." We agree with the Comments that the technique presented in the subject paper is a Simplification of a very complex process involving a number of Mechanisms. This is often the case for full-file reservoir simula- Tions. As stated in the subject paper, the interaction between water And chalk at a molecular level is not yet fully understood and is a Matter of some dispute within the industry.
