Sir, In the Apollo 11 Owner's Workshop Manual (Haynes, 2009) there is a careful analysis of the so-called 'missing a' in Armstrong's famous 'one small step' sentence, including spectrograms.rnHowever, this analysis does not take account of the way we listen to speech - and the way we speak it. In fact, almost everyone uses elision without realising it. Shakespeare knew this and there are numerous instances (quite deliberate) in his plays, such as, "He cannot come out on's grave".
