Pentagon's ORS-1 Imaging Satellite Carried to Orbit

The first operational satellite developed by the U.S. Defense Department's Operationally Responsive Space (ORS) Office was successfully carried to orbit June 29 atop a Minotaur 1 rocket launched from Wallops Island, Va. The ORS-1 satellite was placed into a 400-kilometer circular orbit at a 40 degree inclination, where it will circle the globe every 90 minutes and provide visible and infrared imagery to U.S. forces operating in the Middle East and Southwest Asia. Liftoff occurred at 11:09 p.m. EDT from a launch pad owned and operated by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport.
