Next-gen GPS Ground Segment Faces Two More Years of Delay

A two-year delay to the ground system for the U.S. Air Force's next-generation GPS satellites could have far-reaching effects on the service's positioning, navigation and timing program. In the short term, delays to the Operational Control Segment, or OCX, will mean the Air Force would not be able to immediately leverage the full capabilities of its next-generation GPS 3 satellites. The Government Accountability Office also hinted earlier this year that delays with OCX could postpone the launch of one or more of these satellites.
