摘要

A common European military space system operated by the European Union on behalf of its 25 member nations is unlikely for the foreseeable future because of lingering sovereignty issues, French and German defense officials said. Sharing data from independently owned national systems, such as is planned between France, Germany and Italy, could develop so long as each nation maintains independent satellite access, they said. During a Sept. 30 conference here on "Space Imagery in the Service of Defense and Security," organized by the Foundation for Strategic Research (FRS), officials said that progress in harmonizing European nations' strategic interests still has a long way to go.
