Galileo Faces Delay Amid Debate Over Cost, Revenue

Europe's Galileo satellite navigation project faces more delays as industry pushes back against what it sees as overly optimistic government estimates of the costs and revenues associated with the system, according to European government and industry officials. The immediate result is that the Galileo Joint Undertaking, the government body overseeing the project, has delayed from Oct. 1 to January its selection of an industry consortium that will run the system as a business. The European Union's transport ministers, which had been set to ratify the choice at a Dec. 9-10 meeting in Brussels, Belgium, will not do so.
