ViaSat Corp., manufacturer of satellite communication terminals, said new contracts for satellite-delivered broadband links to business jets, and to homes in the United States, have the potential to trigger the long-awaited growth in this business. But ViaSat Chairman Mark Dankberg also said it is too soon to say whether the consumer-broadband service being introduced by Denver-based WildBlue Communications, and a similar service offered in Canada by Telesat Canada, will achieve a market breakthrough. If they do not, future growth may not materialize. "A lot of people are looking at what the acceptance will be for this service," Dankberg said Feb. 8 at a conference organized by investment banker SG Cowen & Co. "If it has good uptake rates, that would indicate strong growth for us in this segment."
