Northrop Grumman Space Segments Get Double-Digit Boost

Both of Northrop Grumman's space-related segments reported double-digit revenue increases in 2004 as the company reported a 13 percent revenue increase overall, Northrop Grumman announced Feb. 2. However, projections for the year ahead reflect a slowdown in that double-digit growth pattern. Space Technology sales improved 16 percent to $3.3 billion in 2004 due to higher revenue in the intelligence, surveillance & reconnaissance; software defined radios and civil space businesses. Revenue from software defined radios, a collection of hardware and software technology that allows the radios to be reconfigured for use with multiple communications systems, including satellites, improved 41 percent to $546 million due to revenue from aircraft programs, while civil space revenue jumped 22 percent to $638 million due to work for NASA and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
